The Peabody Institute Library Foundation

DDo— The mission of the Peabody Institute Library Foundation is to promote, maintain, preserve and enhance the activities and programs of the Peabody Institute Library.

The Peabody Institute Library’s history is firmly rooted in the legacy of giving. George Peabody’s gift to the citizens of Peabody began with a $20,000 commitment to the residents of the Town of South Danvers in 1852. The Main Library opened in 1854, and one hundred and sixty eight years later, the gift continues to enrich the residents of Peabody in ways George Peabody may never have imagined!

Today the Peabody Institute Library serves its large and diverse community by offering a wide variety of print and electronic resources on virtually any subject imaginable. The library also offers a wide scope of programming targeted to all residents of Peabody – from infants to senior citizens!

Why should I donate to the PIL Foundation?

Your donation to a 501(c)3 organization provides great tax benefits.

The Foundation can maximize the value of your donation by investing in higher-yield funds.

The Peabody Institute Library Foundation is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization. Your donation is fully tax-deductible. All proceeds support the Peabody Institute Library’s lectures and concerts for adults, children’s programming, the Creativity Lab makerspace, conservation of the Library’s Audubon Prints, and space improvements to better deliver free programming and services at the Library.

Types of Gifts

Your gift can be structured in several different ways. You may want to honor the memory of a loved friend or relative, celebrate the life of a newborn, honor the accomplishments of a friend, or make an annual donation. Funds may be named or established anonymously.

Endowed Funds

Endowed gifts may be restricted to certain activities or purchases – programming, furniture, capital projects, children’s books, music, foreign language materials, to name just a few examples. Please consider an unrestricted gift that can be used to accomplish goals of the Foundation in support of the mission of the Peabody Institute Library.

Endowed funds may be established with your gift of $5,000 or more. The donor may name the fund and establish the purpose for which it is created. Each capital addition to the fund increases its value. The expendable portion of the fund is the interest earned, in effect creating a permanent fund in honor of your designee or for a specific purpose.

Cash Contributions

The Peabody Institute Library Foundation Board of Directors appreciates your gift in any amount. Your contribution will be used to purchase materials, support special projects or provide programming in general subject areas at your discretion.

Planned Giving

Please consider the Peabody Institute Library Foundation as you prepare your estate plan. Your attorney or financial planner can assist you in structuring your gift for maximum tax benefit.
