Happy Birthday, George Peabody

The Peabody Institute Library’s founder, George Peabody would have been 229 years old on February 18th. Born into poverty and forced to work at age 11, Peabody became a self-made, self-educated man. He wanted to ensure that everyone who wanted to learn could have access to free knowledge to improve themselves. He established the Peabody Institute Library to ensure that free access to knowledge, to all parts of this community, would be available in his hometown.

We honor his legacy every day by offering FREE access to knowledge for the Peabody Community. From now until the end of February, we will be celebrating with quotes and facts about Peabody’s namesake. Help us celebrate his birthday, by signing his birthday card and letting us know what the Peabody Institute Library means to you!
