Tips for Success
Make Programming a Priority :
1. Balance your time:
Decide what your priorities are and really evaluate how you spend your time.
2. Know when things can wait:
Libraries aren't hospitals! No one will die if Library Journal sits untouched on your desk for a few days!
3. Work with your own schedule:
Review journals when the reference desk is slow. Try to schedule programs on the nights you already work. If you are a director, let your staff lead book groups during library time. Book groups are programs too!
4. Think outside your job:
Very few libraries are lucky enough to have designated programming librarians. This means you have to make your job flexible not only in terms of schedule, but in terms of purpose.
5. Make friends and learn how to delegate:
Get to know your local papers because they provide good publicity. Get other staff members involved in your efforts. Partner with another department for crossover programs. The possibilities are endless!
