The Peabody Institute Library is a proud recipient of On the Same Page, a Community Reading Program Mini-grant funded with LSTA funds through the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. With the funding from this wonderful grant, we are pleased to offer Play by the Book, a city-wide reading program packed with events focused on baseball.

During Play by the Book, we encourage the community to share books about baseball. The library has selected a number of recommended titles, designed to please readers of all ages. Adults are encouraged to check out The Natural by Bernard Malamud and Double Play by Robert Parker, and teens will love Carl Deuker’s High Heat. Children are sure to enjoy Players in Pigtails by Shana Corey, Mudball by Matt Tavares, The Boy Who Saved Baseball by John Ritter and Two Hotdogs with Everything by Paul Haven.

With Play by the Book, books are just the beginning! The library will host a series of exciting events for all ages. Learn about “history ball” from the Essex Baseball Club, meet Mary Pratt of the All American Women’s Professional Baseball League, learn more about the Curse of the Bambino, meet “Mr. Red Sox” Johnny Pesky, and more!
