Library Offers Mango Languages, Online Language-Learning

mangoThe Peabody Institute Library is proud to announce the addition of the Mango Languages online language-learning system to our available resources. Mango is free of charge to patrons, and offers a fun, fast and convenient solution to our community’s growing language learning needs. It’s the easiest way to learn to speak a foreign language!

Mango Languages currently offers 12 language courses — Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Greek, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, ESL for Polish speakers, ESL for Spanish speakers, and ESL for Brazilian Portuguese speakers.

To access this database from home, you will need a Peabody library card. For more information about how to obtain a Peabody card, please see the Circulation Page.

Summer Food Program to Offer Free Lunch and Activities to Children 18 and under

The Peabody Institute Library is pleased to announce that the first ever Peabody Summer Food Program, “Library Luncheons” will begin on Monday, June 29th. Library Lunches will offer free, nutritious lunches and fun activities for children 18 and under.

Library Lunches will run Monday-Thursday from June 29th- August 6th. Lunch will be served starting at 11:30 am. All lunches and activities will conclude by 1pm each day.

No registration or I.D. is necessary to participate in Library Lunches. The library requests that any child under the age of 8 be accompanied by a responsible person over the age of 11.

The Summer Food Program is a federally funded program administered by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Locally, Library Luncheons are made possible by the Peabody Institute Library, the Healthy Peabody Collaborative, the Peabody Council on Aging, Project Bread and many volunteers from the Peabody community.

For more information, please call 978-531-0100 ext. 14 and speak to Melissa Rauseo, Young Adult Librarian.

Library Notices by E-Mail

E-mailGo green, save your library the cost of printing and postage, and get your library notices by e-mail! If we have your e-mail address in your library record, notices will be sent to you by e-mail rather than on paper. This includes our new courtesy notices, which are reminders sent two days before your items are due.

If you want to receive notices by e-mail, please make sure we have your current address. You can check this by logging in to your library account, where you can view, add, remove or change the e-mail address in your record. You can also have the library staff check this for you.

Your Library Account — More on logging in to your library record. You need a PIN to access your account, and to protect your library you must present identification and request a PIN at your library.
