Did You Know?

The Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries support programs for adults, teens and children in our community. We also support programs at the West and South Branch Libraries.

The Friends provide museum passes for Peabody residents.

The Friends offer college scholarships to Pages that have worked in any of the three Peabody Libraries.

Support Your Libraries

In these difficult economic times, the Peabody Institute Library strives to maintain the quality programs and services that have made it so effective in serving the needs of the community. The library has no separate programming budget; it is through the generosity of people like you that the Friends are able to help fund the library's numerous programs and services.

Please consider making a donation today. All proceeds benefit library programs. The Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization. Your donation is fully tax-deductible.

To become a member, please fill out the membership application and deliver it to the Main Library or one of the branch libraries. Checks should be made payable to "Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries." The Friends also accept donations through Paypal, which is a safe and secure way to donate. When you click the Paypal "Donate" link, you are directed to the PayPal site. You will receive a detailed transaction receipt for your tax-deductible donation once your transaction is complete. You do not need to have a PayPal account to make a donation to the Friends on the site. Through PayPal, the Friends can accept donations in any amount from all major credit cards or directly from your bank account.

Friends' Book Sale
Saturday, May 12th from 10 am - 2 pm

The Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries will hold a one-day Spring Book Sale. The book sale will be held on Saturday May 12th from 10am to 2pm at the Main Library. Over 1000 books will be available at very reasonable prices---children and young adult books for 0.50, paperbacks for 0.50 and 1.00, and hardcovers for 2.00. Also available for purchase will be mugs, bags, caps, and note cards with the Peabody Institute Library logo. The Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries is a nonprofit association of volunteers who sponsor events and raise money for the Peabody Institute Library.

Teen Readers Make Over $1000 for the Peabody Library

A Young Adult Read-a-Thon was held at the Peabody Library on Feb 23rd. Teens solicited sponsors from family and friends who agreed to fund a day of reading during the students' February school vacation. The ambitious readers raised over $1000. Following the day of reading, the teens were rewarded with a pizza party. All funds raised were donated to the Friends of the Peabody Institute Library to benefit library programs. The Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries is a nonprofit association of volunteers who work and sponsor events to raise money for the Peabody Institute Library.

Friends of the Peabody Institute Library Award Scholarships to Two Library Pages

The Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries established a scholarship program for high school seniors who have worked as Library Pages. The Friends created this scholarship program to recognize the contributions of Library Pages.

At the June 16, 2010 meeting, the Friends awarded $200 college scholarships to Peabody Institute Library Pages Diane DeAvila and Krystina Tourtillot. Diane will attend Merrimack College; and Krystina will attend University of Massachusetts Boston.

Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries Grant Over $4,000 In "Wishes" To the Peabody Institute Library

The Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries is a nonprofit association of volunteers who work to raise money for the Peabody Institute Library. The Friends grant "Wishes" which fund programs for library patrons of all ages. In 2009, The Friends granted over $4,000 in wishes. The Children's and Young Adult programs included music programs with Peter Sheridan and Teresa Coelho, Painting with Jeanette Lerner, a Museum of Science sponsored Rocket demonstration, new readers' and summer reading supplies, an outdoor family concert, an art program and art supplies. Adult programs included an author visit with sports writer Bill Littlefield, Memoir Writing with Judith Colosi, Resume Writing with Sandra Network, Watercolor Painting with Paula Kulas, Pastel Painting with Greg Maichack, Handwriting Analysis with Barbara Harding, Joseph Carlin?s Thailand lecture, and a cooking demonstration. The Friends also funded the tuning of a piano for a library concert.

The Friends raise money through membership and fundraising events. Membership applications are available at any library in Peabody or online.
